According to Emory University News, Turman Hall is the first environmentally sustainable residence to open in Georgia and will be the first phase of a future freshman complex. The freshman complex will be LEED Silver Certified through the U.S. Green Building Council.

Originally being a parking lot, a residence hall that is five-storys, 44,000 square foot development has 132 beds plus two complete apartments. Eighty percent of the units are allocated for double occupancy and 20 percent of the units are allotted for single occupancy.

Emory’s overall goal is to enrich the freshman experience, by creating a relaxing environment with smart Green buildings to save valuable energy resources. This will allow Emory to save and continue to enhance the student's quality and experience at Emory University.
