  • Working as the prime consultant, Travis Pruitt & Associates (TPA) provided boundary surveying, topographic mapping, engineering design, environmental assessments, permitting services, and construction staking for this 89-acre development in Cobb County, Georgia.

    The engineering design included construction plans for 2.3 miles of 2-lane local urban streets with curb and gutter and sidewalks, 3000 feet of road widening on a state road, and utility coordination for sanitary sewer design across the state road. The roadway design portions of this project included construction plans to obtain approval from Georgia Department of Transportation for two new local street intersections on State Route 13, Buford Highway. The road widening consisted of designing two full access intersections. 3000 feet of highway was improved to provide left turn lanes with required approach tapers. The widening was designed to coordinate with the existing intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and SR 13. Using in-house staff, TPA designed the local and collector streets, longitudinal storm sewers, culverts, stormwater detention and treatment systems, coordinated utility design, and prepared the erosion, sedimentation and pollution control plans in accordance with NPDES permit requirements.

    Storm drainage design was provided for drainage areas less than one acre and up to 20 acres. Drainage was broken down into smaller basins draining to 7 detention/water quality ponds to minimize pipe sizes. Pipes and structures were designed to Georgia DOT standards with sizes ranging from 18 inches to 42 inches. The extension of an existing 6’x5’ concrete box culvert for road widening of SR13 was also designed. Utility coordination and permitting was performed for sanitary sewer access across SR13. TPA also prepared the roadway landscape plans in accordance with City of Duluth standards.

    The roadway design (profiles and earthwork-cross-sections) and plan production was performed using Autodesk Land Development Desktop software. The analysis and design of roadway culverts and longitudinal drainage systems was performed using Intellisolve’s Hydraflow® Hydrographs software, Intellisolves’s Hydraflow® Storm Sewers software, and HY8. These were designed to City of Duluth and Gwinnett County standards. Work performed by TPA included the delineation of waters and wetlands with the proposed project site. The firm conducted a protected species survey and oversaw the completion of an archeological and historical literature review.

    TPA prepared the Pre-Construction Notification (PCN) for a Nationwide permit for three road crossings and road improvements to Highway 13 (Buford Highway). Included in the Nationwide permit PCN, were alternatives to utilize arch-culverts to minimize impacts in order to allow the project to move forward under the Nationwide Permit program. TPA prepared all of the necessary paper work required by the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination (NPDES) Permit, and perfrorms the daily, weekly and monthly erosion control inspection as well as the required water quality monitoring. TPA performed all of the daily, weekly and monthly inspection of best management practices (BMPs) during the entire construction phase of the project.
